As a long time resident of Westerville, and a graduate of Otterbein, I dreamed of the day when I could cut my ties and say goodbye to this beautiful small town. My dream was to move to a fast-paced big city and begin an exciting career in marketing! Little did I know that the Universe chose something else for me!

I found the old house gutted, unloved and unlived in while searching for a place to live during my divorce in 1996. Immediately upon entering the cold, dark, hollow building, I knew it was mine and that I belonged there

Jerrod, my son, who was 2 at the time thought it was the greatest place in the world - who else lived in a house with holes in the floor to the basement, and had bats flying through the rooms? He loved being here amidst the reconstruction - the powertools and workmen became his playground.

Seven months later, with the total renovation done, we moved in and felt instinctively- this was where we belonged. Some people search their whole lives to discover their purpose in this life-seeking to find what they are meant to do that will bring them happiness and a sense of completeness. I found mine in this old house.

Since then, I have hosted numerous guests, serving over 10,000 breakfasts by my last count. And every morning and every year, I appreciate the gift I have been given to do what I love.

Over the years, many guests have become close friends. I have watched 15 years of graduating students pass through the university, and have said goodbye to the family and friends who stayed with me while visiting their students. I have kept tabs on many of the graduates, feeling pride in their accomplishments and remembering fondly their first visits to see the school.

I have stayed in Westerville, watching it grow into the large impressive city it has become and have marvelled at how beautiful it still is. Walking the side streets with my dog, Domino, I see the care our residents take of their homes and gardens, I watch the lovely shops spring up and open their doors to customers and I see the pride the city has in its safe streets and beautiful parks.

We are truely blessed to live in such a place and I invite each and every one of you to come and visit our city - enjoy yourself and indulge in a much needed time out to relax and experience small town Ohio at its best!
